And a huge shout-out to all the women wrestlers–like Sara Hildebrandt–who continue to break down barriers for the next generation!
Over the last several decades, the growth of wrestling for girls and young women has made it one of the fastest growing sports, especially among high school athletes. In 1990 there were fewer than 150 girls participating in high school wrestling. At the beginning of the 2019 academic year, that number exceeded 30,000 girls.
Wrestling empowers girls and young women to exude confidence and display poise, determination, strength of character, and support teamwork. These young athletes will emerge as our important leaders for tomorrow — active participants in all activities and pursuits they undertake.
So, from all of us who love wrestling, our heartfelt gratitude and admiration to all the female wrestlers (and the moms, grandmas, sisters, daughters, and coaches!) who continue to make this wonderful sport even better! You truly inspire us…🙂
