OK, name one thing that might be (almost) as awesome as wrestling???
How about math!!! More importantly, consider the importance of the number 9…
The reverence for this number is near universal and almost mystical. In Hinduism ‘9’ is considered a complete, perfected and divine number because it represents the end of a cycle in the decimal system, which originated from the Indian subcontinent as early as 3000 BC.
More academically, when any number is multiplied by nine, if the individual digits in the resulting product are added, they will always total nine as long as you keep summing the digits produced at each step until you get a one-digit number. That will always be nine.
As Nicholas Tesla said: “If you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6, 9, then you would have the key to the universe.”
But the magnificence of ‘9’ applies to wrestling, as well!
Let’s codify the essential skills for wrestling (I think you know where this is going…):
- Stance
- Motion
- Handfighting
- Level changing
- Penetration steps
- Pivoting
- Lifting
- Back bending and arching
- Hip heisting/switching
Focus on these skills in your coaching/training, and you will unlock the secrets of the universe, er, I mean grappling!!!
