Creating a Fun Learning Environment

Regardless of the style of grappling you teach, having an enjoyable practice–for both kids and adults–is paramount. And we’re not just talking about student retention here…athletes progress faster when they succeed 85% of the time. Seriously, that percentage is science-based, look it up ๐Ÿ™‚.

Here’s our top five guidelines we try to follow at Horsetooth to keep practices on the right gradient of fun and rewarding!

1 – Start and end each practice as a team

2 – Keep the essential parts of practice as consistent as possible so everyone has a level of comfort

3 – Be succinct in your explanation of technique and skills so your athletes can move quickly from one activity to another (I’ll admit I struggle with being succinct…๐Ÿ˜€)

4 – Allow your grapplers to take a water break whenever needed

5 – Focus on positive feedback at all times!!!
