According to research by Sebastian Rivera, a two-time All-American for Northwestern, between the years 1997 and 2018, wrestling has produced a total of 27 UFC champions, more than any other major fighting style and beating the second most dominant fighting style, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) by a hefty 10 champions.

Indeed, what do Randy Couture, Matt Hughes, Cain Velasquez, Frankie Edgar, Henry Cejudo, Jon Jones, Brock Lesnar, Tyron Woodley, Dominick Cruz, T.J. Dillashaw, Kamaru Usman, Stipe Miocic, and Daniel Cormier all have in common?

Yep, they were, or currently are, UFC champions. AND THEY WERE WRESTLERS!!!

Our ‘Wrestling for MMA’ training will emphasize the takedowns, breakdowns, riding skills, and escapes that have allowed the aforementioned athletes to dominate in the Octagon.

Classes will meet each Saturday 8 – 9 a.m. All levels of interests and abilities are welcome–you don’t have to be a current or future MMA competitor to attend…practices will improve your self-defense skills and get you healthier, and we will scale the training for your goals!

Recommended for age 13+, and although this is not a striking class, MMA-style gloves (5-7 ounces) are highly encouraged.
